In New York and Tokyo, Robert served as in-house counsel for a leading Japanese trading company, which handled $25 billion in exports and imports a year in a wide range from raw materials, intermediate goods and consumer goods. In San Francisco, he was a partner at one of the leading US law firms (including the first managing partner of its Tokyo Office), where he advised companies trying to do business in Japan as well as Japanese companies coming to the US. In San Diego, he served as general counsel and director of strategy, where he negotiated deals with global suppliers and customers. In Kentucky, he continues to represent local companies going global as well as foreign companies coming to his community

He is an author of leading books on how to plan, structure and implement international business.
